Former Chinese defence minister and military leader Liang Guanglie dies aged 83
前中国国防部长、军队领导人梁光烈逝世，享年83岁
Liang Guanglie, a former Chinese defence minister who fought for China against Vietnam and navigated military ties with the US when it shifted its focus back to Asia early this century, has died at the age of 83.
梁光烈，曾任中国国防部长，在中越战争中为中国而战，并在本世纪初美国将重心重新转向亚洲时，负责处理中美军事关系，于83岁时去世。
An official obituary published by state news agency Xinhua said Liang died from an unnamed illness in Beijing early on Tuesday morning.
据新华社发布的官方讣告称，梁光烈于周二早晨在北京因病去世，病因未公布。
The report described Liang as an “outstanding leader in China’s national defence construction and military work of the army”.
报道称，梁光烈是“中国国防建设和军队军事工作中的杰出领导人”。
