Volkswagen has sold its plant in China‘s Xinjiang region, attributing the move to “economic reasons.”

The German automaker announced that the facility will be acquired by Shanghai Motor Vehicle Inspection Certification (SMVIC), a subsidiary of Shanghai Lingang Development Group.
这家德国汽车制造商宣布,该工厂将由上海临港集团旗下的子公司——上海机动车检测认证技术研究中心(SMVIC)收购。
Built in 2013, the plant was part of Volkswagen’s joint venture with SAIC, a company also owned by the Shanghai government.
