China’s EV Market: Steep Discounts Drive Record Sales
中国电动车市场:大幅降价推动销量创纪录
In 2024, Chinese carmakers slashed EV prices by an average of 10%, spurring sales and intensifying competition. The average price of battery EVs dropped by 24,000 yuan (US$3,275) to 225,000 yuan in December, marking one of the steepest declines in history, according to CPCA data. Aggressive pricing and government subsidies of 20,000 yuan per vehicle drove record deliveries from major brands like BYD and Nio. A total of 227 car models, including petrol and electric, saw price cuts in 2024, up from 148 in 2023. New government incentives are anticipated in 2025.
