Cambricon Technologies, a leading Chinese AI chipmaker, reported its first-ever quarterly profit, signaling progress in China‘s efforts to reduce reliance on US technology. The company, valued at 300 billion yuan (US$41 billion), announced in a filing that its 2024 losses would narrow to 396–484 million yuan, driven by a net profit of 240–328 million yuan in the final quarter. This marks a significant turnaround after a loss of 724 million yuan in the first nine months. Cambricon’s success fuels optimism about its potential to rival Nvidia in China’s AI chip market.
