Apple Loses Grip in China’s Smartphone Market
Vivo and Huawei surpassed Apple in China’s smartphone market in 2024, taking 17% and 16% market shares respectively. Apple’s shipments dropped 17% to 42.9 million units, reducing its market share to 15%. The final quarter was especially tough, with a 25% year-on-year decline. Meanwhile, Vivo’s and Huawei’s shipments rose by 11% and 37%, benefiting from their strong local presence and advanced features. Despite Apple’s struggles, the Chinese smartphone market grew 4% overall, reaching 285 million units. This highlights the fierce competition Apple faces from domestic brands like Huawei, which have rapidly regained consumer trust.
