Global smartwatch sales have declined for the first time, largely due to a sharp drop in the popularity of Apple’s devices.

Market research firm Counterpoint reports that smartwatch shipments fell by 7% in 2024 compared to the previous year.

Shipments of Apple Watches dropped by 19% during the same period. Counterpoint attributed the decline to a lack of new features in Apple’s latest models and the fact that the rumoured high-end Ultra 3 model never materialised.
