Huawei Unveils First Foldable Smartphone with HarmonyOS Next
Pura X 是一款垂直折叠设备,具有更大的 6.3 英寸屏幕,纵横比为 16:10,类似于平板电脑
Huawei Technologies has launched the Pura X, its first foldable smartphone running on the home-grown HarmonyOS Next platform, marking a major step in the company’s smartphone comeback despite ongoing US sanctions.
The Pura X, part of Huawei’s premium Pura brand, features a 6.3-inch vertically-folding screen with a 16:10 aspect ratio, similar to a tablet. On the back, there’s a smaller 3.5-inch screen that supports phone calls and mobile payments, enhancing user convenience. The device runs on the latest HarmonyOS Next system, which is not compatible with Android. This follows the launch of the Mate 70 series in November, which was the first to feature the updated platform.

Huawei’s smartphone comeback highlights Chinese resilience amid US technology restrictions. The company’s breakthrough began with the in-house 5G chip used in the Mate 60 in 2023, and it further impressed the market with the launch of the world’s first trifold phone in 2024.
Despite lacking access to the most advanced chips, Huawei claims that HarmonyOS Next delivers a 40% performance boost compared to Android. Richard Yu Chengdong, chairman of Huawei’s consumer business group, said that over 20,000 native apps and services are now available on HarmonyOS Next, with 20 apps surpassing 2 million downloads. Huawei expects all of its smartphones and tablets to adopt the new system by the end of the year.
