Gen Z’s Early Investment Boom Raises Crypto Concerns
Nearly a third of Gen Z (ages 18–27) are investing by early adulthood, outpacing millennials (15%) and baby boomers (5%), according to a World Economic Forum (WEF) survey of 13,000 people across 13 countries. The rise is driven by easy-to-use investment apps and abundant financial advice online. In the UK, 64% of Gen Z investors adjust their portfolios monthly compared to 34% of baby boomers. However, regulators are concerned about the high number of young investors starting with risky cryptocurrency investments. The UK’s Financial Conduct Authority warned that many under-35s face the risk of losing everything and has cracked down on unregulated financial influencers. Stocks remain the most popular investment globally, with 60% of surveyed investors holding them.
