Xiaomi Faces Scrutiny After Fatal Crash Involving SU7 EV’s Self-Driving Feature

Xiaomi is cooperating with police after a tragic accident involving its SU7 electric vehicle (EV) claimed three lives, raising concerns over self-driving technology in China.

Shares of the Beijing-based tech giant fell 5.5% to HK$46.50 following the incident, which occurred in Tongling, Anhui province. The company confirmed that the car’s autonomous driving system was activated at the time and that data showed the vehicle was moving at 116kph when it issued a takeover alert to the driver two seconds before crashing into a concrete barrier.

Xiaomi expressed “deep regret” and has submitted all relevant data to authorities, pledging full transparency in the investigation. The mother of the driver confirmed on social media that her son and two passengers died in the crash.
