Vietnam Moves to Curb China Trade Amid US Tariff Threats
To avoid harsh US tariffs, Vietnam plans to crack down on Chinese goods falsely labeled as Vietnamese and tighten export controls to China. This move responds to US concerns that China is using Vietnam to bypass higher duties. Despite offering trade concessions, Vietnam was recently hit with a 46% tariff, though it’s currently suspended for 90 days. Talks between both nations began following a high-level meeting between Vietnam’s deputy prime minister and the US Trade Representative. Vietnam aims to protect its trade relationship with the US amid pressure from the Trump administration.
