The US is tripling duties on low-value packages from China, dealing a significant blow to fast-fashion giants Shein and Temu. Starting May 2, new duties will charge 90% of a parcel’s value or a $75 flat fee, rising to $150 after June 1. This follows a recent executive order by President Trump ending the duty-free “de minimis” loophole for packages under $800. Instead, a 30% duty or $25 per item will now apply, increasing to $50 in June. The move tightens pressure on Chinese ecommerce amid growing trade tensions.
