Nio’s Firefly Battery Swap Station Spotted in China for the First Time
Nio’s Firefly demo battery swap station was recently seen operating in China, marking its first public appearance. Insider reports suggest these stations will debut in major cities before integrating into Nio’s fifth-gen Power Swap Stations (PSS). Despite rumors linking Firefly to CATL’s swap system, Firefly CEO Daniel Jin confirmed Nio will develop stations based on user needs.

A leaked image shows the compact, purple-themed station resembling Nio’s fourth-gen PSS, equipped with similar cameras and LiDARs. A test Firefly EV and Onvo L60 were spotted nearby. The station may feature a front screen, though it wasn’t visible in the photo.

Firefly’s swap tech will eventually merge with Nio’s fifth-gen PSS. Currently, Nio operates 3,249 swap stations in China and about 60 abroad. The Firefly EV, with a 42.1 kWh LFP battery, offers a 420 km CLTC range.
