China Halts US LNG Imports Amid Rising Tariffs

China has stopped importing US liquefied natural gas (LNG) for over 10 weeks, highlighting how the Sino-American trade war has reached the energy sector. The last shipment, a 69,000-tonne tanker from Texas, arrived in Fujian on February 6. A second tanker was rerouted to Bangladesh after missing the deadline before China imposed a 15% tariff on US LNG, which later rose to 49%. The sharp increase has made American gas too costly for Chinese buyers, ending energy cooperation between the two countries for now.
