Alipay’s Tap-and-Pay Service Hits 100 Million Users, Driving a New Era in Mobile Payments

Alipay, launched by Alibaba Group 20 years ago, has once again reshaped China’s payment landscape. Since introducing its NFC-enabled tap-and-pay service in June 2024, Alipay has amassed 100 million users within a year, strengthening its position as China‘s leading payment platform.
由阿里巴巴集团20年前推出的支付宝,再次重塑了中国的支付格局。自2024年6月推出NFC Tap支付功能以来,支付宝在一年内就积累了1亿用户,进一步巩固了其作为中国头号支付平台的地位。
Expanding beyond QR codes and facial recognition, Alipay’s new service allows consumers to pay simply by tapping smartphones on terminals. Similar to Visa and Apple Pay, this function has quickly gained traction among China’s billion-plus internet users. The tap-and-pay service now operates in over 400 cities, supporting 5,000+ brands like Burger King and FamilyMart.
在原有的二维码和人脸识别支付基础上,支付宝新增了通过手机轻触终端完成支付的功能。类似于Visa和Apple Pay,这项技术迅速在中国超过十亿的网民中流行开来。目前,Tap支付已覆盖400多个城市,支持5000多个品牌,包括汉堡王、全家便利店等。
Ant Group, Alipay’s parent company, has collaborated with Shanghai Fudan Microelectronics to develop a new chip for enhanced tap payments. The chip, compatible with all smartphones and resilient to extreme temperatures, will enter mass production in the second half of 2025 with over 10 million units ordered.
支付宝母公司蚂蚁集团还与上海复旦微电子合作,开发出新一代专用芯片。该芯片兼容所有智能手机,能在零下40度至85度的极端温度下正常工作,预计将在2025年下半年大规模量产,首批订单已超1000万颗。
